Studio

An architecture studio working in an old brick warehouse in Karaköy. From houses to cultural buildings, interiors to the city; we bring Scandinavian simplicity to Türkiye’s climate.

Our story

ATLAS Architects was founded in Istanbul in 1999, in a two-desk office. Today, with twenty-five years of experience and more than 180 projects, we design buildings across Türkiye.

Our path ran through Scandinavia: part of our team worked in offices in Copenhagen and Oslo. What we brought back is not a style but a habit: looking at light, climate and material before every decision.

On every project we spend a day on site with our client, follow the path of the sun and build the first model from these observations.

  • 1999Ahmet Yılmaz founded ATLAS in a two-desk office in Galata.
  • 2008Zeynep Kaya joined as design director after five years in Copenhagen.
  • 2014We moved to the brick warehouse in Karaköy and delivered our first LEED-certified project.
  • 2019We won the competition for the Eskişehir University Library.
  • 2023We completed one of Türkiye’s first nine-storey timber office buildings.

Sustainability is the design itself

A building’s environmental impact is decided at the drawing table before a single lamp is switched on: its orientation, form, materials and how long it will be used. That is why we run energy and daylight calculations in the first week of a project.

  • 7 LEED-certified projects (3 Gold)
  • Embodied carbon calculation on every project
  • Experience with cross-laminated timber (CLT) structures
  • Natural ventilation and daylight simulation
  • Local, repairable and reusable materials
